Cosmic Mart is tagged as a top-down twin-stick shooter and bullet-hell action roguelike. That combination rewards independent aiming and movement: keep firing toward the threat while moving toward open space, not automatically toward the target.

In a new room, spend the first moment identifying walls, narrow lanes, hazards, and safe rotation space. The official description warns that the environment is dangerous, so a corner that looks defensible can become a trap when enemies and projectiles converge.

Run three is where comparison starts. Keep the same mercenary if the first two runs failed from positioning, because switching immediately hides whether the problem was the character or your spacing. Switch only when you can name what the current mercenary cannot solve.

Treat item choices like a quick checklist: does this pick help you clear groups, burn down one dangerous target, stay alive, or keep space open? If two items push the same plan, test them together and write down what you saw before calling it a real combo.

Early on, avoid chasing a build name from one clip. A good beginner combo should feel repeatable across more than one room, not only in a lucky layout.

Learn one mercenary at a time

The game explicitly asks players to choose and swap mercenaries between attempts. For useful comparison, run the same mercenary several times before switching. Record whether failures came from range, mobility, survivability, room control, or poor item support.

A mercenary that feels weak in one run may simply need a different engagement distance or item profile. Separate ease of use from maximum potential; they are not the same ranking criterion.

Turn every death into usable data

After a run, note the highest floor, mercenary, important items, strongest combination, and exact failure cause. This creates a personal guide faster than relying on a one-off community opinion.

When comparing advice from Steam Community or YouTube, check the upload date and visible build context. Release-week discoveries can become obsolete after a patch, while older pre-release footage may not match the public build.
